Journal Entry: Mon Jul 6, 2009, 9:35 AM

FACEBOOK . BAND . Livejournal . TWITTER . SHOP

So I've been doing a lot of maintenance and housekeeping lately.
I finally put all my backup disks onto my external harddrive.
So everything will be safe and easy to access all in one location.
I have also found a way to utilize devARTS "COLLECTIONS" feature.
I will be using them to group my features from my regular favorites and such.
They are entitled the same name as the journal entries.

I've also been making a lot of music lately.
I want to soon be either making an EP (EXTENDED PLAY), or a couple of SINGLES!
With album art as well.
So please stay tuned for that and add my myspace: [link]
Also follow me on twitter: [link]
and my personal myspace (Again): [link]

Gonna be working on a lot of other stuff too, I just have alot to do.
Can't wait to share.

Love,

Jack

Thank you all for wonderful pieces.

Wow all of these shots are magnificent and are very inspiring to go out and shoot the most intresting and amazing shots I can take. I would like to thank Jack for putting my photo in this Journal. Though I am still in the process of learning I hope to become a great photographer like some of the people here. My photo "On A Throne Like A King" which is of the Hummingbird is somewhat incompareable to what I see above. Great shots everyone and keep up the more then amazing work.

Weekly Features FAQ

Why?

I have been on deviantART for about four years and counting. At first, I never really caught the gist, and was never really into it. Over time, I began to see what a powerful community deviantART was, and I was instantly compelled and fell in love. (YES I LOVE DEVIANTART). Still a novice, I had found other deviant pages that had comments like “You’ve been featured”, I had no clue to what this meant. I also shamelessly admit, I didn’t know deviantart had a like system and how they came to terms with DailyDeviations. However, over time, I found what all of this meant, and I was compelled again. Never owning a subscription, I was unable to do features, but also aspired. Eventually I grew up (sadly), and got a job (sadly, but grateful), and got money (sadly, but yay), and was able to purchase a subscription. First thing I wanted to do was to do what some have done to me; feature me.

There is a unique, and rather beautiful feeling to be featured. It not only evokes a sense of happiness and accomplishment in the artist who is being featured, but it brings and evokes a sense of happiness and accomplishment to the artist who does the featuring. For this simple, but beautiful act of kindness, I was compelled yet again to bring the happiness that some have brought to me. Not for the popularity, not for the views, or the medal of honor, but rather for the most single and important thing to deviantart, it’s art.

Further more, I do it to communicate my thoughts and ideas with others, and in return get a response and have a conversation where you, communicate your thoughts and ideas. For human kind was granted the gift of communication, and we (the artists), use art to create and evoke that conversation. I’m someone who is deeply, passionately, and madly in love with words and pictures. That is why I do this as well. I surround myself in this setting to see all the wonderful and talented people I can meet, and see what their eyes have to offer me, and only to do the same. I want to be inspired, and inspire. I want to create, and see the created. I want to talk, and I want to listen. I do this for the sake of art, and for the simple acts of kindness that many forget they can do, and accomplish to make others happy.

I am Jack, and this is what I do.

Thank you.

When?

I try my hardest to update the weekly features on a close to exact weekly basis, ie: Mon/Mon, or Tue/Tue, etc. However, life does get combusted, and sometimes things occur without intention, etc, and I am unable to either due it one a 7 to 7 day basis, or sometimes for weeks at a time.

Where?

All weekly features are featured on my deviantART account Birddreams (which is personal) Journal, and is no way affiliated with a club.

Who?

I feature any image that speaks to me, conveys a message, that inspires me, evokes emotion in me, that I find aesthetically pleasing, dignified, well executed, and that I find that needs dire attention and well enough appreciation in my network, as well as the deviantART community.

I in no way create the features based on popularity, race, ethnicity, religious or political views, non-popularity, or subject content of any extent.

However, I do choose from the “NEWEST” > PHOTOGRAPHY categories.

Thanks, but no thanks?

You copy and paste your notifications, where’s the importance in that?

1. I sometimes feature over 50 deviations/deviants a feature. It is nearly impossible to spend enough, and adequate time to fully critique/comment on the image in full extent that it deserves.

2. It takes on average anywhere from 1.5 to 3 hours to make my selections, that is just choosing the images, not favoriting, or categorizing, and not commenting, this is extensive, especially with my busy lifestyle. I can only aspire to be as great as featuring as my friend =KaramNatour

3. In all sincerity, I could never explain what your image has brought to me, although I do try to articulate my thoughts when and if I can. If you would like me to do so, I will, I hope that my thank you is a well enough gesture of my gratitude, and I apologize to anyone who feels otherwise.
P.S. Most of the time, deviants who feature usually notify you with “You’ve been featured here”, or “feature [link]”, however I do my best to articulate basic and generally ideas, gratitude, and appreciation in my one to two paragraph notifications.

I don’t want my image featured; I never gave you permission to display it, etc?

All you have to do (as I usually state in my notification), if you would like your image to be removed please notify me and I will do so asap. I respect you and your creation and in no means want to sell, reuse, take ownership, etc, of your property, but rather share it with the community.

I missed my feature, can I still view it?

Of course, just follow the link that I sent you in the notification and it will direct you to the correct destination where your feature is featured; I do not delete or replace.

Are you a critic?

By all means, NO. I just express my personal thoughts, ideas, and comments.

You notified me I was featured, but when I visited the journal my image was nowhere to be found?

I try to do the compiling and coding of my features in a fast, timely manner, so It is only in my human nature I might have made an error, please just simply tell me that I have done this error, and I will correct it asap.

I left you a comment/note, but why didn’t you reply?

As you could imagine, I get bulk loads of messages, and replies. However, I try my dammed hardest to reply to every single one of you, even if it is just an emoticon smiley, or a simple thank you.

And yes, sometimes I use other languages to say thank you, Oui

Cool, so you do features in your journal, but what’s the “words” bit?

Being that the journal and page is my personal piece of deviantART, I do often times like to know that someone is reading my thoughts, or poems, or simply words. Sometimes it’s rather fancy and poetic, or sometimes it’s just a list of ideas or thoughts. Sometimes it might be fruitful, or sometimes it might be lacking, but it’s just my way of talking with my viewers/readers/watchers/fellow deviants.

I have a suggestion, will you listen?

Most definitely, as I stated in my introduction “WHY”, I just want to communicate and promote the arts. I will listen, and crave conversation and feedback, so please do. :)

WOAH, hold up, you are missing an important FAQ, and it is . . .
